. . . . Bonifaz, 33, also of Cambridge, an energetic public interest lawyer, uses litigation to press for campaign finance reform. The National Voting Rights Institute, which he heads, has been retained to defend several state-based campaign-finance reforms passed by ballot initiatives or legislators. "We like to say that we are a democracy," Bonifaz said. "The reality is we have a plutocracy, where less than one percent of the population is giving 80 percent of the money to campaigns. That angers me deeply."
