The National Voting Rights Institute, which he heads, has been
retained to defend several state-based campaign-finance reforms
passed by ballot initiatives or legislators. "We like to
say that we are a democracy," Bonifaz said. "The reality
is we have a plutocracy, where less than one percent of the
population is giving 80 percent of the money to campaigns. That
angers me deeply." |
